Dr M Mostafa Zaman was born in Ekhlaspur on 5 November 1957. He obtained his first medical degree (MBBS) in 1983 and Masters of Public Health degree in 1988. He obtained PhD in Cardiovascular Epidemiology in 1998 from Tokyo. He is a fellow of the American College of Epidemiology. He has an extensive contribution to the policy and programmes for non-communicable disease control in Bangladesh. He published extensively his research works in international journals on rheumatic fever and non-communicable diseases. Bangladesh Academy of Sciences awarded him a gold medal in 2002 because of his outstanding research contribution to medical science. Currently, he has been working for the promotion of ethical research in Bangladesh. By clinical practice for decades, he has acquired extensive experience in rheumatic fever, rheumatological disorders, diabetes, and high blood pressure. 

He established the Ekhlaspur Center of Health (ECOH) in 1999 with assistance of his Japanese friends. However, this assistance was for the construction of the ground floor of the ECOH building only. Dr Zaman spearheaded the subsequent development of ECOH up to the construction of two more floors, equipment and other logistics, and funds for running the services since its establishment.
